==Main Characters==

Gavin St. Cloud – American, 23 years of age. Deus Rating: 9+

            A gamer.  Incredible hand-eye coordination.  Talent for sniping, and long-range weaponry.  Found in Counter-strike style game.  Beat Benton Charles.  Charles recruits him into the recently founded EDF. 

Cassie O’Shea – Irish, 19 years of age.  Deus Rating: 8.1

            Demolitions expert in Irish Republican Army.  She had been forced into its ranks by her brother.  Benton found her escaping from a hit gone sour.  Her brother had been killed in the attempt.  She was 16.  Uses heavy weapons and high explosives.  First pilot recruited, and also previous team’s leader.  Cassie is hard and stubborn.  Immediately resents Gavin for taking over as team lead.

Breanna Norrick – British – 22 years of age.  Deus Rating: 7.9

            Daughter of missing Archaeologist Charles Norrick.  After his disappearance in 1999, Breanna left home in search of her missing father.  She searched for two years all over the world until Benton Charles found her.  The ASO requested she be found, and Benton found her in China working at a small restaurant to pay for passage west.  She immediately joined ASO, and transferred with Cassie and Benton into the newly formed EDF.  She was never told the truth behind her father’s disappearance. 

Kyung-Soon Hyun - Korean, 16 years of age.  Deus Rating: 7.6

            Korean martial artist.  Benton picked her up while he was visiting Seole in a laser tag arena.  She was mopping the floor with her opposition, which included members of army special forces.  Front line combat unit – hand to hand combat.

Megumi Nanasi – Japanese, 19 years of age.  Deus Rating: 5.4

            By far, Megumi has the worst junction ratio of any of the Deus.  She’s shy and timid and is used mainly for long range attacks in the beginning.  She was the group’s sniper before Gavin arrived, although she was not great in the position.  Gavin ends up giving her a medium-range combat position, which to the surprise of all seems to fit her quite well.  However, she happens to be the best Carry-All pilot in the team, and when the Raptor Flight Backpack becomes available, she excels in the air-assault position.  She also gradually loses her shyness and finds her voice under Gavin’s tutelage.

 Benton Charles – American, 45 years of age.  Deus Rating: N/A

            Recruiting Officer for the EDF.  In charge of finding, testing, recruiting, and training EDF pilots and mechanics.  Very busy man, and is father figure to the three girls.  Gavin sees him as a Rival early on, although this isn’t really the case.  Benton would prefer to be piloting a Deus, but he does not possess the gift.  Had been CIA Special Agent, and before that a Highway Patrol officer.  Was recruited specifically to handle EDF recruiting.

Frank Masters – American, 36 years of age.  Deus Rating: N/A

            Benton’s hunting dog.  Masters finds the new pilot candidates and brings them back to Atlantis Base.  He used to be CIA Special Forces before Presidential Order transferred him to the Atlantis Project.  He had been a good friend with Benton before being transferred.

==Engineers & Techs==

CDE Darwin – American, 33 years of age.  Deus Rating: N/A

            Chief Deus Engineer.  Very crude mannerisms at best; has no problem pronouncing foul language.  Besides that, best engineer in the EDF.  Always wears mechanics’ bright-orange coveralls – but these are usually so dirty and soiled that they come out as a dull brown.  Wields tools as if they were weapons (in fact, has a hobby of throwing flat-tipped screwdrivers like knives - and is a good shot).  Hate-relationship with CCO Marley.  The two have the most fun playing the most destructive practical jokes on one another, which usually end of tormenting the tech and comm crews.

Doctor Jenna Mari – American, 25 years of age.  Deus Rating: N/A (possible story thread, rating 8.8)

            Doctor Jenna Mari is the Head Scientist of the D.C.C.P. crew.  She heads all dive operations personally, and conducts all operations of the Pillar.  She is haggled about being ‘old’ by the pilots, even though she is only 25, because she always dresses professionally (basically they call her a librarian – which agitates her to no end).  Her demeanor is usually serious and also lends to the misconception of her age.   

ET Mai Mikagami – Japanese, 20 years of age.  Deus Rating: N/A

            Engineer Trainee Mai Mikagami, known as E.T. by just about everyone else.  Each Deus is assigned an Engineer Trainee under direct supervision of Darwin.  Mai is shy, but extremely skilled.  She ends up revering Gavin, albeit silently.  She knows exactly how to tweak Gavin’s Deus Aether for optimum performance without Gavin having to ask.  Although Darwin treats her similarly as the rest, she is his star pupil. 

CCO Lawrence Marley – American, 34 years of age.  Deus Rating: N/A

            Chief Communications Officer Marley is usually involved in all operations and heads the hectic Communications Crew.  He is responsible for overseeing all EDF Communication and is very strict on protocol.  Any outside Communication from ARC must go through him first.  He and Darwin had a longstanding hate relationship, and constantly play practical jokes on one-another - usually to the detriment of the rest of the communications and tech teams.

==Others==

Dr. Charles Norrick – British, Age 59.  Deus Rating: N/A

Dr. Charles “Chuckit” Norrick led the first team into AS Atlantis.  He proposed and designed the underwater ‘bubble’ that allows for the excavation.  Dr. Norrick was the first to do any archeological work on AS Atlantis and discovered the tablet.  The Deus remnant wasn’t discovered until after the bubble construction.  Dr. Norrick went missing along with his entire team.  A second team was dispatched, and no trace of the doctor or team was found.  The bubble was constructed, and major excavation began.  Dr. Norrick is still listed as missing.

Admiral Viramonde – Military commander of EDF. 

Vice-Admiral Hackett– Admiral’s backup, second in Command of EDF

Deus Program Advisor (Benton Charles)

Colonel Bennett- (special-forces commander – similar to Marines for EDF – generally referred to as crunchies)

Admiral Viramonde and Admiral Hackett do not reside on the ARC.  They are mostly involved in the political workings of the EDF at UN Headquarters.  Used mainly for reference.  Also captured and stripped of rank during the UN’s ‘cleansing’ of the EDF Terrorist threat (late story progression).

Colonel Bennett resides on the ARC with his marines in the lower areas, mostly around the training centers.  Bennett takes on a major role during the UN incursion, helping Gavin and the team protect the ARC from UN troops.

The Gift – The ability to Junction, or link with a Deus.

Atlantis Project – The Black Project of building the Atlantis Research Center under the guise of a massive international archeological dig.  In reality, the Project was to build the base for the yet-to-be born EDF. 

Atlantis Research Center (ARC) – A massive artificial island built in the South Pacific halfway between Japan and Australia.  The island is headquarters of the EDF, and home to its members.  The Deus and the Pilots are also housed there.  More importantly, ARC resides directly above the ruin of AS Atlantis.

Deus – Machines created from recovered Alien Technology nearly 12000 years old.  Discovered in Archeological ruin dubbed ‘Atlantis’. 

Deus – The pilots are also referred to as Deus, mainly when junctioned to the machine.

Tez’zen – Alien race that had at one time controlled earth, and were repelled in a human uprising.  12000 years later, the Tez’zen have returned to reclaim control of the planet and create on it their prophesized ‘Paradise’.

EDF – Earth Defense Force – Created at the end of 1999 by the US, Japan, China, Russia, South Korea, Australia, European Union, and other countries in response to the findings of archeological site ‘Atlantis’.

AS Atlantis – Underwater Archeological Site named after the fabled city when the remnants of a Deus were found.  The head archeologist dubbed the giant humanoid machine “Deus” or God. Also found was a tablet three football fields long.  Inscribed in an ancient text was a description of events from the landing of the Tez’zen, the occupation of Earth, the creation of Atlantis, the human uprising, the destruction of Atlantis, and the fleeing of the Tez’zen from Earth.  Also included was a warning, stating the Tez’zen would be back and when.  The time of their invasion, some 12000 years later, was growing near.

ASO – Atlantis Surface Operations – The faux organization charged with protection of AS Atlantis.  In reality, the ASO was a dummy organization created to hide the existence of the EDF while it built up strength and presence.  The ASO was renamed the EDF in the second half of 2000. 

1997 – AS Atlantis Discovered by British ship laying cable.

1998 – Atlantis Project begun to excavate AS Atlantis.  ARC construction begins.

1999 – Deus remnant and Tez’zen tablet found.  ASO founded.

2000 – ASO renamed EDF.  ARC completed. 

2001 – First Pilot discovered and placed in first operable Deus. 

2002 – Second and Third Pilots discovered and placed in newer Deus models.

2003 – Gavin St. Cloud’s story begins.
